SKATE ONTARIO ROWAN'S LAW & CONCUSSION POLICY

Skate Ontario has developed a standardized best practice Concussion Policy for the sport of figure skating in Ontario. This policy is not age dependent, all skaters, coaches, officials, and volunteers must be treated in the same manner.

In accordance with the policies of the Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport, Skate Ontario has developed a Concussion Policy for the sport of figure skating in Ontario.  That policy can be reviewed by clicking on this link: Skate Ontario Rowan's Law & Concussion Policy

On June 11, 2020, the Ministry of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries (MHSTCI) announced the implementation date of Phase 2 of Rowan’s Law has been changed from July 1, 2020 to January 1, 2021.

If a skater is removed from practice/competition because of a suspected concussion, they will not be allowed to return to practice/competition until cleared to do so by an appropriate health care provider using the Return to Play Form.

Skaters and parents/guardians must acknowledge reading the Skate Ontario Concussion Policy when registering to enter a Skate Ontario event, and must complete the Skate Ontario Concussion Waiver as part of the registration and before being allowed to practice or compete.
